S3E13: 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' continues to inspire; The 'Die Hard' debate is no debate at all; and 'Hook' keeps with the holiday tradition
I pieced together a Christmas-themed episode using three outstanding podcast karaoke segments
Imagine flipping through channels this Holiday Season and instead of simply watching whatever show or movie you landed on, you got to learn about the time period from which each program came. That’s essentially what my guests and I do here on the Everything is a Primary Source Podcast—talking history through pop culture.
This episode deals with three titles that find themselves on screens this time of year, 1965’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” 1988’s “Die Hard” and “Hook” from 1991. Each of these pop culture artifacts are reflections of the state of the world at the time of they were created.
‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ continues to inspire
First up is my talk with Noella, whom I met at the National Council for the Social Studies annual conference held in Nashville earlier this month. As both an educator and an author/illustrator Noella was drawn to the image of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at my exhibit table. I love talking with makers on this show because they have special insights about what motivates them to create what they do, when they do, and how they do it.
You can learn more about Noella and her work at noellabickel.com. And while you’re online check out my page at everything-history.com. There you can learn more about the podcast, listen to episodes, book podcast karaoke events, and reach out about consulting and coaching opportunities.
